Laser Surgery
A safe alternative to traditional surgery.
At Hope Veterinary Clinic’s East and North, we perform spay/neuter procedures, soft tissue surgeries such as mass removal, and dental surgeries in state-of-the-art surgical suites equipped with modern Luxor lasers.
Laser surgery provides the following benefits to your pet:
- The laser seals any exposed nerve endings, meaning your pet will experience less pain, swelling, and inflammation.
- Bleeding is minimal since the blood vessels are sealed by the laser beam during surgery, which also allows our doctors to perform your pet’s surgery with extraordinary precision.
- There is less swelling because the laser beam does not crush or tear tissue and comes into contact only with the tissue being incised, ablated, or excised.
- There is a reduced risk of infection since the laser beam sterilizes the tissue.
Surgery Protocols to Keep Your Pet Safe
During any procedure, our doctors and staff will take every precaution to ensure your pet’s health and safety:
- We view each pet as an individual and thoroughly examine any pet prior to anesthesia. We always recommend pre-anesthesia blood tests.
- We administer a pre-anesthetic sedative to help keep your pet calm.
- Our doctors use individual, sterile surgical packs of instruments for each patient, exactly as human doctors do.
- We administer pain medication prior to anesthesia in EVERY case. Research shows that pets recover from surgery faster with pre-operative pain medication. Post-operative pain management will be provided on an as-needed basis.
- We use isoflurane gas, which is also used on humans and is one of the safest anesthetics available.
- A registered veterinary surgical technician will monitor your pet’s vitals throughout the entire surgery.
- One of our registered veterinary technicians will monitor your pet post-surgery, and we use external heat sources to recover body heat lost during anesthesia. All observations made by the doctor, such as abnormalities of the body cavity, length of procedure, and anesthesia evaluation, are permanently recorded.
- The doctor will call you after surgery.
- Most pets are able to go home the same evening. For those who need extra time, a night’s stay in our hospital is included with every surgery.
- You will receive a copy of your pet’s detailed release instructions when you pick them up.
- We call within 2 to 3 days of your pet’s return home to check on their recovery.
